Day 2: still procrastinating

Why crack on with my own work when I can look at other people's some more...

Seanna Doonan was supposed to be the next exhibition at The Hepworth, Wakefield. From Wakefield herself her work depicts ordinary life in the town and this exhibition was due to look at life in Wakefield during the miners' strike. There is a good article in the Guardian - link below.

Her work is brought to life by the fact this is partly her story - she was growing up post miners strike in the aftermath and the unsettledness that followed. Her contemporary depiction of these hand drawn images are beautifully offset with bold graphic colours - giving both a retro and a contemporary edge. The flat graphic colours contrast well with the more illustrative and printerly monochome drawings. The texture in the black (from ink printing ** need to look into **) gives the images depth and an abstract realism (if there is such a thing ** look that up too **).
